MORE THAN A MANAGER PREVIEW SCREENING AT ST JAMES’ PARK

The first of three special preview screenings of the wonderful new film, Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager, was a huge success at a sold-out event at St James’ Park last night (22 May).

Mark Robson, Lady Elsie and Andrew Robson

The film – the definitive story of Sir Bobby’s remarkable life – is receiving fantastic reviews and the crowd in Newcastle certainly enjoyed it.

Hosted by our Patron, George Caulkin, the audience was treated to funny and touching memories of Sir Bobby from former goalkeeper, Steve Harper, who is also a Patron of our Foundation, and an insight into the film’s creation from its directors Torquil Jones and Gabriel Clarke.

Lady Elsie, Sir Bobby’s family, friends and former players were in the audience, alongside Professor Ruth Plummer, Trustees of our Foundation and many of our wonderful fundraisers.

Touchingly, several times during the film, there was spontaneous, appreciative applause – including the first mention of the Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre.

Tonight, there is a preview screening at Wembley Stadium hosted by our supporter, Henry Winter, and including a Q&A with ex England international Terry Butcher as well as the film’s directors.

And on Friday, Sir Bobby returns to Portman Road, where the host is Matt Lorenzo and Q&A guests are Ipswich legends John Wark, Terry Butcher and, our Patron, Mick Mills.

Tickets for the Wembley and Portman Road preview screenings cost £20, with £5 being donated to support our work, and are available here.

Two cinemas, Curzon in Soho and Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle, will be premiering the film on 31 May (again, including special Q&A guests) and you can book tickets for this and subsequent screenings by using these links:
