BOBBY ROBSON: MORE THAN A MANAGER PREVIEW SCREENINGS
Ahead of the release of Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager – the definitive film about Sir Bobby’s incredible life and career – there will be three exclusive preview screenings at stadiums that were very special to him.

Raising money for our Foundation, the previews at St James’ Park (22 May), Wembley Stadium (23 May) and Portman Road (25 May) will be an opportunity to see the highly-anticipated film on the big screen in the company of Sir Bobby’s family and friends.
Each pitch-side screening also features a Q&A with the film’s directors, Gabriel Clarke and Torquil Jones, and former players and football writers who knew Sir Bobby well (including George Caulkin, Steve Harper, Henry Winter, Terry Butcher, Mick Mills and John Wark).
The first takes place at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park, where Sir Bobby’s love of football began – and where he returned as manager in 1999 to ‘save’ his club.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper, Steve Harper, will join fellow Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Patron, George Caulkin from The Times, for the Q&A.
Talking about More Than A Manager, Steve says: “It’s a powerful journey through the managerial life of a great man. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you smile, it’ll make you cry. They’ve really done it wonderfully, wonderfully well.
“So far, I’ve only seen it on my laptop and Sir Bobby still managed to fill the room somehow. I’m looking forward to seeing it on the big screen and I think it’s very fitting that he’ll be back here in the middle of the pitch at St James’ Park.
“They’ve done very well to capture the spirit, the soul, the passion of a great man. And it takes you on a journey as a football fan.

“I was aware he’d been successful at other clubs but this film shows just how successful he was, and what he had to deal with to achieve that success.
“And as an England fan, the hurt of ’86 and Maradona’s hand ball, Sir Bobby’s vilification in the press, and reliving just how close we came to the World Cup in 1990. It’s amazing.
“It’ll be powerful stuff seeing this film on the big screen and I would urge people to get a ticket quickly if they want to come because they’re half sold already. We’ll have a wonderful night paying tribute to a great man and enjoying what is a very, very good film.”
Other guests in the audience on the night will include Sir Bobby’s family, friends and former players, and Lady Elsie and son, Mark Robson, will attend all three preview screenings.

The challenges he faced, the triumphs, his beginning, the highs and lows and, of course, the sad ending. And so much of it, latterly, against a backdrop of his own issues with cancer.
“The filmmakers are clearly football people and they’ve shown Dad the respect I think his career deserves. It’s a film full of drama and emotion.”
Starring an A-list cast including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Ronaldo, Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, and never-before-seen archive footage and emotional testimony from Lady Elsie, More Than A Manager is an intimate portrait of one of sport’s most inspirational and influential figures.
Covering a career that saw some of the greatest moments in footballing history, including Maradona’s ‘hand of God’, Gazza’s tears and England’s greatest World Cup abroad, to titles in Europe’s top leagues and a Barcelona treble, this heartfelt and personal film is led by the intimate recollections of Sir Bobby himself.
The film also covers Sir Bobby’s fight with cancer and the formation and ongoing success of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and a percentage of the film’s profits will be donated to the charity.
