LADY ELSIE VISITS SOUTH MOOR GOLF CLUB

Lady Elsie recently visited County Durham’s South Moor Golf Club and proudly received a cheque for £1,360 raised for our Foundation.

Ronnie Fraser (Vice Chairman), Tom Wilkinson (Club Captain) and Lady Elsie

South Moor’s 2024 captain, Tom Wilkinson, chose us as his charity of the year because Sir Bobby is much-loved in the local area.

It was a fitting choice, as Sir Bobby and his family played at the moorland course in Stanley, not far from where grew up, and where he lived in later life.

It was one of the highlights of Tom’s year to meet Lady Elsie at the club, to share a celebratory glass with her and to hand over the proceeds of his Captain’s Day.

He said: “Members were so supportive of the cause and were very generous, donating prizes and buying raffle tickets.

“A raffle for a round at the prestigious Close House Colt course was a great success.

“There was fantastic ‘buy-in’ as people were well aware of the vital work that Sir Bobby’s foundation does in funding research and care right here in the North East.

“South Moor is a mixed club of Newcastle and Sunderland fans, and although Sir Bobby is remembered as a black and white, such is the respect for the man and the cause, that everyone got fully behind it.

“I have to thank all the members for their generosity.”

Lady Elsie says: “It was a great pleasure to meet Tom and everyone at South Moor Golf Club.

“Everyone was very welcoming and the club has a lovely atmosphere. It’s no wonder Bob used to enjoy playing here.

“We’re very grateful for the money Tom has helped raise during his year as Captain and it will help us carry on the work Bob began when he launched his Foundation.”
