LADY ELSIE OFFICIALLY STARTS 10TH ANNUAL CHARITY WALK FROM OVINGTON

Fundraisers in Ovington, Northumberland, celebrated the 10th anniversary of their annual charity walk in glorious sunshine.

As always, the event raised money for our Foundation and this year Lady Elsie was proud to officially start the 16 mile walk from Ovington to Newburn and back.

Before this year’s event, the fundraisers had already raised an incredible £16,200 to help us find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.

Event organiser, Ann Cowperthwaite from Ovington, is understandably proud that their group has supported our Foundation every year since Sir Bobby launched us in 2008.

Ann says: “This fundraising event began because of Sir Bobby Robson and our respect for him.

“Unfortunately, over the years, we’ve had friends and family who have suffered from the consequences of cancer, so it’s really grown in meaning for us all.

“Supporting a charity that does so much for local people affected by this terrible disease is very important to us and we’re proud to be doing something to help.”

The walk is regularly sponsored by Thompsons of Prudhoe and has become a popular fixture in the local calendar. This year, 40 walkers undertook the challenge, which ends with a celebration at Ovington Club.

Lady Elsie says: “It’s marvellous that this fundraising event has supported our Foundation since our launch 10 years ago.

“They’ve raised a very significant amount of money in that time and we’re grateful to everyone involved. And I’m glad that the sunshine made it a perfect day for walking!”
