EMMA THE LEMONADE ENTREPRENEUR!

Today (21 December) is the shortest day of the year, so how about a warming flashback to summer when it was so hot that 8-year-old Emma Thompson decided to make cool lemonade to share with her neighbours!

With a little assistance from her brother, Matthew, the Springwell Village Primary School pupil set up a stand outside her home and quickly attracted some ‘customers’ who enjoyed a refreshing drink and then left thank you donations for our Foundation and the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade.

Proud dad, Kevin Thompson, says: “It was all Emma’s idea because it was such a hot weekend. She did a great job and was outside most of Saturday as well as Sunday morning. People passing by in cars even stopped for a quick drink!

“Emma suggested donations for charity and we chose The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation because of the work they fund for children with cancer and her uncle volunteers for Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, so that was an easy choice too. She raised £50 for charity in total, which was far more than we thought possible.”

Emma’s pop-up stand and thoughtfulness show there are no age limits when it comes to fundraising.

Jack Ryan, fundraising coordinator at Newcastle Hospitals Charity, says: “We were all extremely impressed when we heard about Emma the lemonade entrepreneur!

“She did a fantastic job and we’re very grateful for her support.”
