CHARITY FOOTBALLING DAY AT THE RACES
With the new season fast approaching, local football fans have their sights set firmly on their own clubs and what may be in store for them.
On the eve of the start of the Premier League season, Newcastle and Sunderland fans have the chance to come together to discuss their upcoming campaigns, enjoy some horse racing and fantastic hospitality – and raise money for two local charities in the process.
A special football-themed Race Day at Newcastle Race Course on Friday August 15 will raise funds for Sunderland AFC’s official charity the Foundation of Light and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sponsored by digital strategists, Leighton, who are developing the Foundation of Light’s new website, more than 130 places have already been sold for the event.
Guests will enjoy a superb afternoon of racing and entertainment including Premier Admission to the Gosforth Park Suite, a three course lunch, race card and post race entertainment.
In addition, BBC Radio Newcastle’s popular Total Sport programme will broadcast live from the event and will feature Simon Pryde alongside former Sunderland player Gary Bennett and former Newcastle player John Anderson. Guests will have the opportunity to put their opinions and questions to the BBC football experts.
Throughout the day there will be a range of games and activities including a special Race Day accumulator where one guest will win hundreds of pounds.
Tickets for the event are available for £85 per person or £825 for a table of 10.

The Foundation of Light is the registered charity of Sunderland AFC, working with tens of thousands of people every year in education, sport, health and employability programmes. Structurally and financially independent of the football club the Foundation of Light relies on fundraising for 90% of project costs, which is over £3 million.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation helps find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer, including the clinical trials of new drugs, and directly benefits patients from across the North East and Cumbria.
