Live Theatre and The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation will be hosting a gala performance of The Red Lion on Friday 5 May, with proceeds going to The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
The Red Lion, written by Patrick Marber and starring Stephen Tompkinson, John Bowler and Dean Bone, opened at the Newcastle quayside based theatre on Thursday 6 April and has received great reviews, whilst performing to full houses. Set in the ultra-competitive twilight world of semi-professional football, The Red Lion is a powerful, funny and touching drama that reaches beyond the beautiful game.
The gala evening starts at 6pm with pre-show drinks with Lady Elsie Robson and her sons Paul, Andrew and Mark; followed by the performance of The Red Lion at 7.30pm; and an exclusive post-show supper with the Robson family, George Caulkin, sports writer for The Times and a Patron of the Foundation, director of the show, Max Roberts, and the opportunity to meet The Red Lion cast.
Tickets for this special event are priced at £100 with profits from the evening going to The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity, which was launched in 2008 by Sir Bobby Robson to help find more effective ways to detect and treat cancer.
“When we were approached to do a special performance of The Red Lion in aid of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, we felt that it was a great opportunity to support a fantastic local charity.” Max Roberts, Artistic Director, Live Theatre
“We’re absolutely thrilled about this very special fundraising night at Live Theatre. I’ve heard wonderful things about The Red Lion and was lucky enough to meet the cast and director recently. I’m sure it will be a wonderful evening and we’re grateful to everyone at Live Theatre for making it happen.” Lady Elsie Robson, Sir Bobby Robson Foundation
